Foods that make you happy – now I am sure you are all wondering are there really foods that make us happy? And what is happiness?

Well, to begin with, Happiness, according to Wikipedia, is a mental or emotional state of well-being characterized by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy.

Yes, there are foods that take you into the emotion that we call joy. Also, there are millions of people out in the world who eat specific foods, depending on their moods. But is this a healthy way to eat? After all, if you are healthy, you would automatically have less stress, and be happier.

As the saying goes, Health = Happiness.

Chocolate:

Chocolate – the name itself makes me binge on a chocolate right now. Who can be grumpy, while chewing on a perfectly melt-in-the-mouth chocolate? This is because dark chocolate has certain agents that help to fight against stress, and it also contains antioxidants which keeps your body healthy. So, the next time you are stressed out completely, you know what to do – just munch on a piece of chocolate, though in limited quantities!!

Honey:

Honey, as most of us know, is far better than the regular sugar. The reason being that it contains certain agents, which helps to prevent depression, and also keeps the human brain healthy – it reduces inflammation in the brain. Also, it controls the blood sugar levels.

Coconut:

Have you ever wondered standing at the sea shore amidst a bunch of coconut trees, feeling relaxed and care-free? Well simply because the scent of the coconut may soothe our stress muscles, and it also slows down our heart rate. Thus, making us more relaxed and care-free to enjoy a stress-free vacation! A word of caution here - if you are in the habit of having coconut milk in large quantities, avoid the same. It’s unhealthy!! You can go for the tender white coconut instead.

Tea:

Drinking caffeinated black, green or oolong tea can alert the mind, while drinking a calming tea can help ease the troubles of a long day. So, drinking a cup or two actually is beneficial and does not harm the body.

Tomatoes:

All tomatoes have a substance known as lycopene. Lycopene is an antioxidant that fights inflammation in the brain, thus protecting the brain.

Well, the above is a small list of the common foods generally eaten, and they actually help in you feeling relaxed after you have eaten that particular food item. Try to remember the last time you ate a whole tomato, and were you happy or sad after that? Or did you feel jittery after drinking a cup of tea?

To conclude, these are some foods that help in regulating the moods of an individual
